2012 Audi R18 e-Tron Hybrid Quattro LMP1 SOUND – Test at Monza Circuit

Today I recorded the new Audi R18 LMP1 e-Tron Quattro during a test day at Monza Circuit, in Italy. Unfortunately I couldn’t appreciate how this car is really fast because of the really bad weather conditions. The car is powered by a V6 turbo diesel engine which can produce more than 500 BHP. But the e-Tron Quattro is also hybrid: in fact, while the V6 engine works on the rear wheels, the kinetic energy recovered in braking phase is stored, as electric energy, in some accumulators. The car can use this energy during the various accelerations, form a speed of 120 km/h (75 mph), discharging it on the front wheels. In this way a new Quattro traction is created. You can distinguish the two e-Tron Quattro from the two Audi R18 Ultra thanks to that red stripe around the headlights of the e-Tron. probably because of that weird formula looking spoler behind the seats

  3. iHaTeThER0uTiNe:

GT6 will be awesome. Technology on cars is moving fast forward

Yes they make some test here because of the high speed they can reach. This year there was only the Audi and the Oak Racing testing their LMP cars. Last year there was also the Aston Martin and the Peugeot

One of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen. I felt the same feeling when I first saw the Mazda 787B

All of the videos are at Monza. Do most of the LMP manufacturers use Monza as a test due to its high speeds and long straights similar to Le Mans?

Noise is indicator of how much energy is lost with the combustion engine, which is only 20% efficiency and the remaining is turning into heat and noise

It’s not a sad state. It’s always about going faster and faster. It’s not about sound, it’s about speed, even if it means making a car very light and silent to achieve better lap times.

I can,t believe the sad state Motorsport is in today they make a race car s that not only a hrybid but also makes no engine sound at all. And to make matters worse there is the so called modern race fans who aren’t, Motorsport fans by the way, say this car sounds great what!!!!!!!!!!. Bring back group c , bring back group c they were real race cars not the junk we have today.

No, it isn’t. It’s probably from a Corvette, that might have been testing on the same track. Obviously it’s certainly not a coincidence. The way their V6 really sounds, they just can’t do the “loud race car wow” effect with it and that’s why they did what they did in that promo video. Just ask their ex-competitor Peugeot who had the same problem…

  18. QuertrGTRR:

Wrong, its the same V6 Diesel sound. Different angle, different sound ;-)

  19. Wilson19604:

tires mainly, and other tunning like springs, power output etc…

  20. deggis4:

If the sound is REALLY so awesome, why Audi uses a big block V8 sound in one of it’s promo videos? =D See at 1:00 mark @ watch?v=5FyQQmKKxsM

  21. RidgeRacerLord:

I kinda hope they race both of them, would be cool to have a competition within one factory submitting two slightly different cars.

  22. RidgeRacerLord:

    Because this isn’t the hybrid.

  23. deggis4:

The 120km/h limitation is only for front axle. And Toyota decided long time ago to go with the rear. In the rollout of the car in January they at least officially had systems on both rear and front, but I’m not sure if that was for real testing or just little bit of partnership promo-ing… (Aisin made the one the on the front, Denso the one on the rear)

  24. deggis4:

Peugeot was usually the little bit louder, altough with diesels that isn’t saying much.

  25. ManoharBoss:

    2 Peugeot’s didnt like the sound :)
